Our next dining destination is Smith House in Olde Marco. During our first visit, in December 2020, we enjoyed breakfast in the restaurant. This time we tackle lunch. And thankfully, Smith House doesn’t close at 2pm like many other places (they close for an hour between 4 and 5).
We started with the soup of the day, a creamy mushroom ($ 9). This was unlike any mushroom soup I’ve ever had before. It was not the color of a mushroom. At least not the color I generally associate with mushrooms. We all know mushrooms make a great sauce, but this soup was more like a breakfast sauce. That is not bad. I like surprises. However, it left me wondering if I should add sausage. Hmm?

For my entree, I selected the grass-fed cheeseburger ($ 16.50). Actually, my receipt said it was a “chicken breast burger”. I’m not sure if it’s the same. Either way, it’s served with tomato, lettuce, pickle, and onion and on a grilled brioche bun. I added mayonnaise. Mustard and ketchup are also available.
For your side, you can choose french fries, homemade fries, cole slaw, or a cup of fruit. I chose the French fries, but they were more like breaded potato wedges. Enormous! And many of them.
I ordered moderately well on the burger. It came out more on the side of the well, but it was a solid effort. I have no complaints about the potatoes either, other than I think they should change the name to wedges on the menu, so that the expectations match reality.
My dining partner selected the ranch style chicken wrap ($ 12.75). Contains lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese in a flour tortilla with breaded chicken and ranch dressing. It is also huge.
It comes with the same side options as the burger. He chose the homemade fries.
The wrap is also a solid effort. If I had to question myself, I could have used a little more chicken. What can I say, I am a critic. I point out things. I realized that we are blessed that there is so little to point out.
I’ll say this too: I was way more impressed with my breakfast experience in 2020. It was exceptional. After all, Smith House started out simply by offering breakfast. They now have lunch, dinner, entertainment, a tavern, and a bakery. That’s a long way in a short time.
One of my favorite breakfasts? Avocado Toast, made with gluten-free seed bread and sliced fresh avocado, tomato, radish, and coriander and topped with chia, flax, and hemp seeds. This dish is both a beauty and a health bomb to start your day. I highly recommend this dish.
From the tortilla section of the menu, I had the Xaviar, with mushrooms, garlic, asparagus, and Brie cheese. You can choose your toast, a bagel, croissant, or English muffin to go with your eggs, and homemade potatoes, fries, or fruit as a side.
First the omelette: absolutely amazing. This is an excellent combination of ingredients and it was produced perfectly with no cracks or undercooked stains. Two thumbs up!
My dining partner decided to make his own omelette ($ 9.50), picking up red bell peppers, mushrooms, provolone cheese, and a plant-based sausage. First, congratulations on offering plant-based options. This dish got rave reviews.
He also ordered the steel cut oatmeal ($ 9) which was topped with walnuts, brown sugar, fresh fruit, and
topped with chia, flax and hemp seeds. Incredible! These people know how to make it healthy and appetizing.
Smith House is an incredible addition to the Marco Island dining scene. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, you won’t be disappointed. Eating happy! And happy New Year!
