Goldee’s Barbecue customers can enjoy a new Goldee’s brand beer, free, beginning Saturday, January 8, 2022 in Fort Worth.

The founder of Brutal Beerworks in North Texas crafted the golden ale specifically for the award-winning steakhouse. Goldee’s is the best in the state, based on Texas Monthly, and thousands of heads of meat have lined up in recent months, waiting to try this coveted ‘taco’.

Goldee’s had always stocked a free beer cooler for those who stood patiently; Many busy barbecue places do that to keep their customers happy and busy. But now Goldee has his own beer.

Goldee's Barbecue is a restaurant on the outskirts of Fort Worth, run by a band of best friends who went to high school in Arlington. Collectively, they have worked at nearly every award-winning barbecue restaurant in Texas, including Franklin Barbecue, La Barbecue, Valentina's Tex-Mex, Micklethwait Craft Meats, Truth BBQ, 2M Smokehouse, Terry Blacks, and more.

Brewer Eric Johnson describes the beer as light, with a bit of malt.

“This will really wash the palate,” he says. He founded Brutal Beerworks in 2018 in North Richland Hills and collaborated with Goldee’s in 2021.

Brutal is best known for its sour superfruits, which are quirky, flavorful beers. The most popular from Brutal is a series of tart beers called Gusherz. The latter is enriched with mandarin, peach and pineapple juices.

A big personality beer like that wouldn’t work on the barbecue, which is why Johnson says an easy-drinking lager is a better match.

Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman co-founded a company that sells Eight, a light beer named after his soccer jersey number.

It will be available in only two locations: Brutal’s Tavern and Goldee. In Brutal, the beer is called Sold Out, probably in reference to the usual sales of Goldee barbecues. In Goldee’s, his name is Itachi, the name of a character in the Naruto anime series.

(Confused? Just ask for “Goldee’s beer” anywhere and someone will probably know what you mean.)

It will be at Goldee’s on Saturdays only, says Lane Milne, one of the six co-founders.

Johnson says it’s a fun collaboration for two young and ambitious companies.

“Our mindsets fit together,” says Johnson. “We are a group of younger people and we are trying to make some crazy beers. And Goldee’s are young guys in the barbeque business, they’re killing it. “

If you’re heading to Goldee’s, it’s only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Doors open at 11am and many customers line up several hours in advance. While the restaurant often has some food around 3pm, popular items like brisket tend to sell out early.
