In an all-out effort to continue one of Rhode Island’s longest-running and most successful fundraising events, the organizers of the everlasting Ricky Salzillo memorial game dinner have announced some strict safety guidelines for the food and fun festival. For starters, anyone who attends the annual event named after the late Johnston resident who tragically died in a car accident in 1976 should get vaccinated against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Also, all tickets must be prepaid to avoid a line on Sunday, February 6. Tickets are priced at $ 35 per person.
“We will take each person’s temperature as they enter the Post,” said Vin LaFazia, who shares co-chair honors with Johnston attorney Steve Placella, who was a longtime friend of the late Salzillo. “We also want people to cover up when they come in and out and buy raffle tickets at dinner.”
What Placella described as a “special courtesy,” valet service will be available, if desired, and a task force of police will be on duty when people park their vehicles.
“We are taking all necessary steps to make sure everyone is safe,” LaFazia added. “The dinner is, and has been, a very popular and important event that has funded everything from college scholarships for high school graduates to programs for children fighting cancer at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.”
Placella, for her part, added: “We don’t want any flaws in the history of the dinner. We have funded many charitable causes over the years and we want to follow all the guidelines established by the Rhode Island Department of Health during the COVID-19 crisis. “
